I've been watching a lot of movies lately. Since at least 4 hours of my day are spent home alone, without internet, and I'm not always motivated to draw or letter anything, I rent movies from Redbox. Honestly, I think I rent them too much. It's just so hard to resist at only $1.20 + tax, and I really love watching movies. The only bad part is remembering to return the movies by 9pm the next day, like I forgot to do with two movies tonight...... but alas, that's another story.
Anyway, Nicholas is part of a group at school that meets every Wednesday night. He's usually gone for a few hours, and sometimes he'll leave me the internet (via his phone's wifi) but a lot of the time I'm without, so I either rent a movie or draw or something. This past Wednesday I rented Anna Karenina. I didn't really know a lot of what to expect, but it sounded interesting when I read the summary.
I really, really enjoy watching movies that are set in the Victorian era, and it's even better when Keira Knightley is in them, which she is a lot of the time. She's just very good in roles like those, very compelling. And honestly, I'm a sucker for Victorian era love. Something about it is just so intriguing and heartbreaking and beautiful. And okay, yeah, a lot of the time, including in this movie, there is often adultery, but given the era, I really don't care. I honestly can't imagine living in a time where most or a lot of marriages weren't a result of love, so I can't really blame the people for going out to find and experience real love outside of their marriage. Sure, it's "technically wrong", but that was a different time, and to me, it was much more acceptable in my eyes because they aren't really cheating on anything except for practically a business deal. Something about this movie was just so breathtaking, though. The love she finds is seriously overwhelming, and it left me feeling speechless. The real love they experience is so visibly passionate and raw, I can't even begin to explain.
So, a very long introduction for this week's column, but I deem it necessary because the quote below is from the movie. And I just read it over and over and can feel their love and passion that I saw on the screen, and I'm breathless again. I highly recommend the movie, especially if you're interested in Victorian era love and anything else from that time. Truly something else.
